Privacy Policy — Albera
Albera is Aumatex’s app for iPhone, iPad and Mac to build and keep your family tree. This policy describes which data the app handles, where it stays and which network connections it opens. It follows Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR).
Albera1. Data controller
- Aumatex SRLS — Via Umberto Biancamano 25, 00185 Rome (RM), Italy. VAT IT15617831001. PEC: aumatex@pec.it.
- Requests about personal data: privacy@aumatex.it.
2. No data collected by Aumatex
- Albera needs no account: there is no sign-up and no login.
- The app contains no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and there is no Aumatex server that receives your data: Aumatex collects no personal data through Albera.
3. Where your data stays
- Your tree, with its people, dates, places, photos, documents and stories, stays on the device and, if you use iCloud, in the private database of your iCloud account, synced across your devices through Apple’s CloudKit.
- That data is handled by Apple under its own policies: Aumatex has no access to it.
4. Sharing with relatives
- Sharing the tree with relatives goes through iCloud sharing and is your decision: you choose whom to invite and can stop sharing at any time.
- When you share or print, living people are hidden by default.
5. Artificial intelligence
- The artificial intelligence features run entirely on the device: texts are written with Apple’s models, and black-and-white photos are coloured by a model the app downloads from Apple’s servers the first time you use it. No tree data, photo or text is sent off the device.
6. DNA data
- If you choose to enter them, Albera keeps only data derived from a DNA test, such as haplogroups and the list of matches, never the raw test file. They stay on the device and in your private iCloud, like the rest of the tree.
7. Other people’s data you enter
- In the tree you enter personal data of other people: deceased and living relatives, with names, dates and places of their lives, photos, documents, stories, voice recordings and, if you choose, data derived from DNA tests. Genetic data belongs to the special categories of personal data (Art. 9 GDPR).
- You enter and manage this data yourself: for it, you act as the controller, and you decide what to keep and with whom to share it.
- Aumatex does not process this data on your behalf, because it never receives it: it stays on your devices and in your iCloud and, if you share the tree, on those of the relatives you invite. It leaves the device only with the searches you start, described in section 8.
8. Network connections
- The app makes no requests to Aumatex SRLS servers: there are none. Sync and sharing contact iCloud (Apple) with your account.
- When you search for a place, the text you type goes to Apple Maps (MapKit) to find results, and the map of places downloads map data from Apple’s servers.
- When you choose a place it found, Albera asks Wikidata (wikidata.org, run by the Wikimedia Foundation) which provinces and regions it belongs to, sending the place’s name and the device language; with “Complete from Wikidata”, on a place’s page, it sends the place’s name to get its coordinates and its names in other languages. The requests contain no other tree data; as with any web request, Wikimedia receives the device’s IP address.
- “Search on…”, on a person’s page, opens in Albera’s built-in browser a search on FamilySearch, Portale Antenati, Ancestry, MyHeritage, Geneanet or Find a Grave, with the person’s first and last name already filled in and, depending on the site, the years of birth and death and the place of birth. Albera does not query those sites by itself: the search starts only when you choose the site, which receives the search data, the device’s IP address and the usual technical data of the visit and handles them under its own policy.
- When you open Settings, Albera asks Apple’s App Store (itunes.apple.com, its public app lookup) whether the Aumatex apps not yet out are on sale, so they appear in “More from Aumatex” the day they come out. The request carries only their App Store identifiers and the store’s country, taken from the device’s region; it is sent at most twice a day, without cookies or cache, and no longer at all once every app is out. Apple receives the IP address and the usual technical data of the request, handled under its own policy.
9. Device permissions
- Camera: to capture documents and family photos with the system’s document camera and add them to the tree.
- Microphone: to record the voices and stories of your relatives.
- Speech recognition: to transcribe recordings; transcription happens on the device.
- Face ID / Touch ID: only for the optional app lock. Recognition happens in the operating system; biometric data is not accessible to the app.
- Photos: the app uses the system picker, which needs no permission and hands it only the photos and videos you choose.
- Every permission can be revoked at any time in the system settings.
10. Purchases
- Albera Pro, as a yearly subscription or a lifetime purchase, is bought through Apple’s App Store: payment data never reaches us, and the app only receives confirmation that the purchase is active. The purchase can be shared with Apple’s Family Sharing.
11. Retention, export and deletion
- Aumatex keeps no personal data of Albera users collected by the app. Your data stays for as long as you keep it: you can export or delete everything from the app at any time.
- If you write to us at supporto@aumatex.it, we use the data in your message only to reply to you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR); requests to exercise your rights sent to privacy@aumatex.it are handled to comply with a legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR). In both cases we keep the data for 12 months from the last contact.
12. Your rights
- Because your data stays on your device and in your iCloud, you can view, correct, export and delete it directly in the app. For any request you can write to privacy@aumatex.it.
- You have the right to lodge a complaint with the Italian data protection authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali) or the authority of your country.
13. Changes to this Privacy Policy
- Aumatex SRLS may update this policy: the date at the top of the page marks the latest revision.
