Roma 1975 — Web Audio Guide for the Drugstore Museum
A web app with offline audio guide for a photography exhibition on Jubilee Rome in 1975, developed for the Special Superintendence of Rome in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture.

01 · The challenge
Listening without network
The Drugstore Museum offered no public wifi access and mobile network coverage was absent in almost all exhibition spaces. The goal was to deliver a complete digital audio guide — 31 thematic tracks in Italian and English — usable on any smartphone without app store downloads and without relying on connectivity once inside.
Web app with offline audio guide for the photography exhibition "Roma 1975: City, faces and stories in the Jubilee year" at the Drugstore Museum. The exhibition, curated by the Special Superintendence of Rome in collaboration with the MIC and SSABAP, features over 3,000 unpublished photographs by photojournalist Fabio De Angelis, organised in 5 thematic sections.

02 · The solution
Smart preloading and full audio production
We designed a browser-based web app that preloads all audio and text content on first access — while the visitor is still in the network-covered entrance area. Beyond technical development, we handled the entire audio production: studio recording, editing, post-production and full SIAE rights management.
03 · Implementation
Lightweight architecture, rich experience
- Zero dependencies, zero frameworks: pure HTML, CSS and vanilla JavaScript for maximum compatibility and reliability on any device.
- 5-section thematic structure with an accordion system that plays one track at a time and automatically pauses the others.
- Native accessibility: keyboard navigation, ARIA labels, screen reader support, reduced motion and 44×44px touch targets.
- Bilingual Italian/English with dedicated pages and Web App Manifest for standalone installation on smartphones.

04 · Outcome
Culture accessible without technical barriers
- For visitors: complete offline audio guide, no download, no registration, with immediate QR code access at the entrance.
- For the cultural institution: full digitisation of the exhibition route, no dependency on internal network infrastructure, no app to maintain on stores.
- Turnkey production: recording, editing, music rights and technical development managed by a single supplier.
